This operation is a surgical procedure, in which the breast augmentation and the improvement of the breast shape with the use of silicone implants is achieved. A small to medium level fall can also be fixed, in relatively small breasts, if the patient wished the simultaneous breast raise. To correct asymmetries, silicone implants can be used, as well as in cases of breast repair after a mastectomy.

The implants can be placed under the massive gland or under the main chest muscle (the muscle under the breast). Its placement can be done through an incision which could be: i) at the nipple boundaries, ii) at the armpit, iii) under the breast.

For each of the above different choices, there are clear indications, depending the anatomical structure of the patient, which should be discussed and explained thoroughly. The safety of the silicon is well documented from various studies.

The operation is made under general anesthesia and lasts 1.5 – 2 hours. The patient can return home a few hours after the operation or the next day.
The post-operational pain is mild (it is more intense when placing the implant under the muscle) and responds to the common painkillers. If intense and persistent pain or sudden “swelling” occurs, you should immediately tend to your doctor. The stitches are not removed,since they are absorbed. The patient can return to her workeven the following day, yet it depends on the activity level that her work needs. The patient can return to her rest daily activities gradually the next days or weeks. The swelling resides after a month approximately. The scars would be intense and pink for at least 6 weeks. Then, they start to recede and after a few months they will be indiscernible, but never “invisible”.

The immediate implications are very rare (haematoma, implant infection). There is the rare case that a strong gum tissue could be created that can cause breast hardening. Its causes are not all fully defined and it is an unpredictable incident. However, there are some techniques that the surgeon follows, so that the chances of appearing such a problem would decrease. In some serious cases, its surgical removal is essential.

Nursing is allowed. After a pregnancy, even breasts with implants can deteriorate their appearance, which might lead to a corrective operation.

The breast check, for the wome who are in the appropriate age, continues without problems.

After the patient examination and her expectation assessments, the method recommended is analyzed as the most appropriate for her case.

There are various implant types. They may contain natural solution or silicone gel of variable density. They can be round or guttiform (anatomic) and may be of low, medium or high profile. There are implants of various sizes of course.
